Introducing: The Jean Earrings

Allison Asis

I am so incredibly excited to share the Jean earrings with you all! These new beauties are a whimsical take on the classic hoop earrings that we all know & love, and I'm sure for most, were a staple accessory throughout our high school days! I used to obsessively wear a pair that were big enough to easily fit one's hand through - they were amazing. Hoops can be a bold statement, edgy, chic, yet still simple dependent on the shape & size you go for. I just love the variations and versatility. So much so that I decided to make a signature Cadette version.

The Jean Earrings draw inspiration from the one and only German-French artist, Jean Arp. His unique biomorphic shapes have an airy aura to them, which I'm repeatedly drawn to.

Jean Arp was a dedicated Dadaist - an art movement that was often referred to as 'anti-art', as its aim was to go against art's 'traditional aesthetics' at the time. Arp embraced irregularity & imperfection when producing his pieces, which called to mind navels, clouds & lakes. All beautiful forms of nature. It was also said that 'Arp's Dadaist art represented the fanciful and poetic', and I feel as though that couldn't be more true whenever I observe his work.

And so, I created the Jean earrings, an homage to the artist himself, and of course, lovers of the classic hoop. Any of you who, like me, find themselves drawn to the beauty of organic, abstract-like shapes, can indulge in this new addition to the line. I hope that you love them as much as I do!

Introducing: The Kamea Earrings

Allison Asis

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!
Wishing you all a prosperous 2017, filled with much love, happiness & success. Let's continue to fight for what we love & believe in this new year. The opportunities are endless!

I couldn't be more excited to see all that unravels for Cadette throughout this new year. And it begins with the release of two new pieces! For 2017, I aim to create a journal entry whenever a new piece is introduced into the line. I love having the opportunity to explain the general inspiration behind a design, with accompanying visuals that can put the final piece in context.

This entry will speak specifically to the new Kamea earrings.
Being heavily influenced by artists who capture the beauty of irregular, imperfect, a-symmetrical forms, Arp, Matisse, Kelly - I wanted to create a new pair of statement earrings with a similar sentiment.

It was my cousin who suggested the name Kamea. In Hawaiian, it means: one and only, or one-of-a-kind. So suitable in this case, as each earring is created unique. I form each of the Kamea earrings by hand, mimicking the same general size & concept for each, so that they resemble each other enough to be a pair, however, no two will be the exact same. It's this beautiful irregularity that I've always been drawn to, and believe makes a piece much more memorable.

With this first launch, I'm offering them specifically in brass, polished to a high shine. These beauties are eye-catching enough to create a statement when worn, but still have a lightness them, so they can easily be worn from day to night. Now available in the shop!

xoxo,
Ally

THE CHRISTMAS POST

Allison Asis

It's Christmas evening and I felt the sudden urge to get some words onto this blog. The official kick-off to 2017 is just around the corner, and I'm overwhelmed with various emotions: the first being pure JOY, as I think about Cadette's continued growth over this past year (BECAUSE OF ALL OF YOU!). From gaining a few new amazing stockists, to continuing to be part of artisan markets around the city - where I constantly meet such incredible individuals. From fellow entrepreneurs and makers, to those who stop by the Cadette booth to observe, inquire, admire, and potentially purchase one of the pieces - these encounters alone are *pinch me* moments of motivation that mean much more than you know!

At the same time, however, I feel moments of stress, worry, fear. This happens when I think of my urging dreams, goals and must-dos. I can only hope, pray, and of course, work as hard as I possibly can to produce these ideas and concepts I have brewing in my mind.

This January, I'll be partaking in another metalsmithing program, which will allow me to diversify the line, even more.

So these emotions that are coming over me right now, I'm taking in whole-heartedly. I see them to all be positive forces, ultimately telling me that there is much more to be dreamt, learned, done, executed - and share with all of you. So stay tuned.

I will leave it at that for now. Thank you thank you thank you, always. Happy holidays & Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones! *Cheers* to an exciting 2017 ahead!

Xo,

Allison
