FAQ

ENGAGEMENT RINGS

HOW DO I DETERMINE MY RING SIZE?

The swiftest and most accurate way to have your finger sized is by visiting a local jeweller. If this isn’t possible for you, please email us to purchase a ring sizer (within Canada only).

WHERE CAN I TRY ON THE RINGS IN PERSON?

The only way you can currently view and try-on the full collection in person is by booking an appointment with our founder, Allison, in Vancouver, Canada. Email info@cadettejewelry.com to book and the specific location details will be shared with you upon confirmation.

COMING SOON: Starting in May, appointments in Toronto, Canada will become available with our Toronto-based manager who will have select styles available to try on. Email info@cadettejewelry.com to get on the wait list.

CAN I MEET WITH SOMEONE VIRTUALLY TO DISCUSS THE RINGS?

Yes, email info@cadettejewelry.com to book a video call with our founder, Allison, who can try on various pieces while on the call with you, discuss the designs in detail and answer any questions that you have.

DO YOU SHIP SAMPLES OR WAX MODELS THAT I CAN TRY ON AT HOME?

We do not ship samples (metal, wax or silicone). You can either book an in-person appointment (in Vancouver) or virtual appointment with our founder, Allison, which is the best way to gather as much information as possible on the different ring designs.

DOES MY ENGAGEMENT RING COME WITH A CERTIFICATION?

Each lab grown diamond engagement ring comes with a complimentary IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate, and each natural diamond engagement ring comes with a complimentary GIA (Gemological Institute of America) or IGI certificate. The certificates provides the specific details of your diamond and its unique identification number.

One-of-a-kind sapphire or gemstone engagement rings do not include a certificate. You may have your ring assessed by a local appraiser who can provide details of the gemstone in your ring. (The majority of our sapphires are sourced from Misfit Diamonds: a North American B2B gem supplier, known in the industry for their exceptional offering of unique diamonds and sapphires).

DO YOU DO CUSTOM WORK?

Currently, we can provide slight customization to the existing designs on the website. For example: switching the diamond to another gemstone like a sapphire, making the band thicker or thinner, setting a bigger stone than what’s currently listed, creating another ring size that’s not currently listed; email info@cadettejewelry.com to discuss a customization of this nature. We do not offer full custom services for entirely new designs at the moment.

CAN I BUY JUST THE BAND WITHOUT A DIAMOND OR STONE?

We do not sell just the band or setting alone. All engagement ring orders include the band with a diamond or gemstone supplied by Cadette Jewelry.

CAN I SUPPLY MY OWN DIAMOND OR GEMSTONE TO BE SET INTO ONE OF YOUR BANDS?

Unfortunately not. For various liability reasons, this is not something we offer at the moment. Both the band and stone is supplied by Cadette Jewelry.

CAN YOU RESIZE MY RING?

If you've purchased your ring from us and are located within Canada, we are happy to resize your ring for you for $90 plus shipping. If you're located outside of Canada, we recommend that you visit your local jewelry repair shop who can resize your ring swiftly.

CAN I ORDER ANOTHER RING SIZE THAT’S NOT CURRENTLY ON THE WEBSITE?

Yes, absolutely. We would create a custom order for you. Email us at info@cadettejewelry.com to order a custom size.

HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY ENGAGEMENT RING?

Because your engagement ring is such an important and valuable piece that you want to enjoy for life, we recommend being mindful of how you wear and care for it:

  • Remove your ring during high-intensity sports and activities to prevent damage.
  • Remove your ring while swimming in a pool or at the beach, as chlorine and salt water can erode the metal over time.
  • Buff the metal of your ring's band every few weeks with a polishing cloth that's intended for solid gold or fine metals.
  • Consider having your ring professionally cleaned and checked by a local trustworthy jewelry shop once a year for settings integrity.

You can also clean your ring at home with this simple and safe remedy:

  • Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water in a bowl.
  • Place your ring in the soapy solution and let it soak for 20-30 minutes. This loosens grime and buildup.
  • After soaking, use a soft-bristle toothbrush to gently scrub the diamond, setting, and ring band. Be thorough but gentle, especially around the diamond setting to avoid dislodging it.
  • Rinse the ring under warm running water to remove any soap residue. Make sure the drain is closed or covered to prevent accidental loss.
  • Pat the ring dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. You can also let it air dry on a clean cloth.

JEWELRY CARE

ENGAGEMENT RINGS

Because your engagement ring is such an important and valuable piece that you want to enjoy for life, we recommend being mindful of how you wear and care for it:

SOLID GOLD PIECES

Though solid gold jewelry is enduring and will last a lifetime, you can maintain its beauty and luster with this simple at-home cleaning remedy:

  • Add a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid to a bowl filled with two cups of lukewarm (not hot) water.
  • Drop your gold pieces into the solution and let them soak for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Lift jewelry out of the solution and gently scrub with a soft-bristle toothbrush to remove any dirt lodged in nooks and crannies.
  • Swish the piece around in a bowl of warm water to remove the soapy residue.
  • Pat the ring dry with a soft, lint-free cloth and buff to bring back the shine.

Additional Tips:

  • Buff regularly with a polishing cloth that is intended for gold or fine metals.
  • Remove your gold jewelry before swimming in chlorinated pools, as chlorine can weaken the metal over time.
  • Store your solid gold jewelry in a separate compartment in your jewelry box or in a soft cloth pouch to prevent scratches.

STERLING SILVER PIECES

Silver naturally oxidizes over time. Your silver piece can be cleaned and revived to its original state by buffing with a polishing cloth, or using this simple at-home remedy:

  • Take a heat-proof bowl and line it with aluminum foil.
  • Place your jewelry inside the bowl and cover the piece with baking soda.
  • Pour hot water into the bowl and seal the aluminum foil so the mixture can work its magic. Leave for approx. 10-20 minutes depending on how tarnished your piece is. Usually 15 mins. does the trick!
  • Have an extra bowl of warm water on the side for rinsing your pieces afterward or just rinse through under a faucet of running water.
  • Dry pieces off with a gentle cloth.

Additional Tips:

  • For tarnished silver, consider using a silver polish solution, but make sure to follow the product’s instructions carefully.
  • Remove your piece before swimming, showering or applying lotions.
  • Store your sterling silver jewelry in a cool, dry place, preferably in a tarnish-preventive bag.

GOLD PLATED or VERMEIL PIECES

Cleaning gold-plated jewelry requires a gentle touch to keep it looking its best without wearing down the gold layer. Here's how to clean your gold-plated jewelry safely:

  • Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm (not hot) water in a bowl.
  • Place your gold-plated piece in the solution, letting it soak for about 5-10 minutes.
  • Use a very gentle cloth or soft toothbrush to delicately clean your piece. Avoid scrubbing too hard which could damage the plating.
  • Carefully rinse the jewelry with lukewarm water to remove any soap residue.
  • Pat the jewelry dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Make sure it's completely dry before you store it away or wear it.

Additional tips:

  • Store your gold-plated jewelry in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture, to prevent tarnishing.
  • Remove your piece before swimming, showering or applying lotions.
  • Consider using anti-tarnish strips or bags when storing your jewelry to further protect against tarnishing.
